YAYY I POSTED!!!

Hey just checking in with everyone (because i guess the poetry was a sign I needed to participate more ahaha).I don't really have much to say, except I'm still hanging in there when it comes to the stressors of school. That news writing class is still hated with a passion, but I'm in the middle of working on the in-depth story(it's on the debate regarding the employment of synthetic turf in the district playing fields...ugh woo but that's my Merrick beat for ya aha) so at least it will be over soon.Film studies also is becoming a pain, because while I like analyzing films for content/themes, I'm not a fan of learning the technicalities of it all. We have to analyze a scene shot by shot for our midterm paper which I'm DREADING. Not to mention, our textbook is the most obnoxious thing to read, because the author talks to us like we're already experienced cinematographers, and uses ridiculously complicated language to explain a concept that could easily be simplified...like how a wide angle lens differs from a telephoto lens. Still, love my adolescent psych class though- that professor is HYSTERICAL. So it aint all bad ;)

**Also still mourning the loss of my i-pod, but I'm hearing my music through youtube for now. Speaking of music, I don't know why I'm all of a sudden getting into Springsteen!!!!!!!!! ahaha. Lately it's been obsessive listening between thunder road, badlands, promise land and the river (which is pretty sad actually). LOVE his lyrics.

Okay so that's it for now...pretty sure this long blog makes up for my absence on this site = ) toodles!-Lauren

Hey Lauren,
Good to 'hear' from you on here. You crack me up though. You wonder why you're so into Springsteen? Uhhh, you were genetically AND environmentally predisposed to be very into him. Your mother played his music over and over again while you were in utero. She use to stand right up against the speakers so you would feel the full impact. Why do you think your brother plays the saxophone? (Not to mention those songs you listed are great, btw :))

Hahaha...I must have always tuned it out until now :-)

Lauren, thanks for you interesting and informative blog. Before I go on, I have to see if this first sentence is accepted by whoever lets my comment in or does NOT let my comment in. OY!

OK, they let me in.
I am fascinated with your Merrick 'beat" and the issue of the athletic fields. I know that Evan is somewhat invlolved, let us know how it turns out.
Years ago I also took a film class and I agree about the technical aspects of the subject.
But as far as your some of the other students that take that class do you think they hope to learn how to direct a film in the future? Do you know of any?
I like Cheryl's; theory about why you like/love Springsteen. How does your Mom like the idea? If I were to find out that one of my kids suddenly got an appreciation of, say, Frank Sinatra, I think I'd be pleased.( No one could ever replace Sinatra, ever)
So Lauren, remember, you are our only college student in the entire family. Of course, Michael is close behind you but for now YOU ARE THE ONE.
So don't be a stranger.

PS To Evan, Michael and Elizabeth. ..that goes for you all too!
To Nicole, thanks.
NEW POEM

Lauren, did you lose your iPod or is it broken? Well, as you know, the good news is that news class is almost over!

Hey Grandma- Yeah, I think a lot of people in that class are probably film majors, so maybe they're more into those technical movements than I am? At least when we analyze the scene we still need to say the meaning of what the shots represent in driving the story forward...
Nicole- Unfortunately it is BROKEN :( but yess at least that class is almost done!! :)

Are you all impressed that I'm being active on here lately??? I AM W0000000000000T

Cheryl said...

Yes Lauren, I am highly impressed by your activity!

And Sari-- I do believe we have 3 more U2 fans in this house than you thought (though they may try and deny it). Still I think it is true in a VERY deep way :)

lol yes lauren I am also impressed! Hopefully your iPod gets fixed. And mom, I am not a U2 fan. I am not a U2 hater, but not a fan.
