we the people in philadelphia
just declaring that we got back from our busy couple of days in the land of the declaration and the constitution..philadelphia. if you haven't been to constitution center, we all recommend it - saw an awesome multimedia show about "we the people" and there were many things to read, see, touch, etc. of course went to independence hall, liberty bell, betsy ross' house. one of the highlights was a horse and buggy tour around the historic district - many, many historic houses and buildings. visited edgar allen poe's house (outside the main city area) and it was creepy as expected. drove around the entire city of philly (very do-able since it's not large) and went to what was voted the best philly cheese steak around - Pat's steaks...line around the block, cars pulling up from everywhere to get one - neighborhood was very much like bensonhurst. in fact, it reminded us all of spumoni gardens where people come from all over, there are a few picnic tables outside (it's strictly a take-out window, sp. g. has an indoor option.) drove around u of penn but didn't get out and couldn't really get a feel for the campus on the inside, but got a feeling for the surrounding neighborhood. phila. museum of art had an exhibit of cezanne's work but tickets were hard to come by. all in all, a busy time and a great place to visit.

Hey, sounds like a lot of fun! When we were in Philly this past Feb. we had a day set aside to visit all those sites on a closed trolley tour. Unfortunately, a snow storm was forecast and so we drove home early that day :( We definitely planned on doing the Pat's cheese steaks as well. Oh well-- we did take a train into Center City and got to know the areas surrounding Penn a bit better, but hopefully next time we can check out all the historical sites. Did you know that Philadelphia was the 2nd largest city on the east coast? Many people think Boston is bigger, but it isn't!
i would've sworn boston was bigger - seems more unmanageable. i know driving around boston is more confusing...philly was straightforward re: its map but confusing when you wanted to go somewhere specific and kept running into one way streets and one block streets. like trying to find pats steaks took us forever because the street its on goes one way and we didn't know how far south to go (pats is in south philly) before turning north to find it (if you know what i mean). probably would've been faster to walk there since everything is so close to eachother.
I love Philadelphia. It is the place where one of the greatest stories in history began,,the birth of the United States of America... With all its imperfections.
But how did the Liberty Bell get cracked...anybody?
the actual answer to that question is that no one really knows...it's thought to be from wear since there wasn't any incident that may have caused it to crack. sari
I had a Phillie cheesesteak while we were there. That is one filling sandwich, I was stuffed afterwards.
As I type this, I realize I don't know the right way to spell Philly, or is it Phillie?
pete, i had to have my sandwich in 3 installments it was so filling. i tend to think it's spelled philly. hey, is that where they make cream cheese? sari
Hmmm, but the Philadelphia Phillies are just that-- 'PHILLIES'.
i guess it's phillies when it's plural, philly in the singular. (you know, drop the y and add ies) - sari
Okay, so it's Philly's or Phillies. But what about my grammatical puzzle. Is it Moses and Me ...or Me and Moses..or Moses and I..? SOMEBODY must know!
